The Canadian Collegiate Championships, presented by Hush Blankets, is Canada’s latest Esports property owned & operated by Truenorth - an early-stage startup building a fundraising technology platform to connect Canadians nationwide with celebrities, athletes, and influencers to benefit nonprofits & underserved communities across Canada.

TORONTO / HAMILTON, ONTARIO / JANUARY 3, 2020 / TRUENORTH is proud to announce the launch of the Canadian Collegiate Championships in partnership with Hush Blankets, the largest national collegiate Esports tournament ever hosted in Canada.

The Esports tournament will take place in Hamilton at McMaster University’s Degroote School of Business on January 3-5, as part of 2020 MBA Games.

MBA Games is an annual competition first established over 30 years ago at Queen's University in 1988. The event provides a unique opportunity for the country’s leading MBA students to compete in competitions across academia, athletics, and spirit. This year there will be 17 competing schools with over 600 students participating. As part of this year's athletics competitions there will be an Esports tournament.

The Canadian Collegiate Championships will feature EA SPORTS™ NHL® 20 on PlayStation® 4 played across a single-elimination tournament bracket, as each team battles head-to-head to skate their way into Canadian collegiate Esports history!

If victory isn’t enough - the winners will walk home with brand new Hush weighted blankets, who have joined the tournament as this year’s Presenting Sponsors. The tournament MVP will also win a priceless hockey stick signed by Toronto Maple Leafs forward, Alexander Kerfoot, as well as prizing & swag courtesy of our community partners OHL junior ice hockey team, The Hamilton Bulldogs.

The theme for 2020 MBA Games is to demonstrate social responsibility by having a positive impact on local communities, with collective fundraising efforts having already raised $50,000 - having smashed the $30,000 target initially set for this year’s dedicated charity partner, Empowerment Squared. The nonprofit has supported over 1,500 newcomer youth & families settle in Canada and is building the transformational Liberian Learning Center in Paynesville, Liberia.

The MBA Games is considered to be the largest MBA competition in Canada that first began at Queen's University in 1988. The event takes place over three days, providing a unique opportunity that brings together leading MBA students from across Canada to compete across academic, athletic, and spirit events. A dedicated charity partner is selected annually, where all involved raise awareness & funds for the given charity. The MBA Games has been hosted by various schools across Canada over the past 30 years as an independent platform, where the winning school is given the honour of hosting the Games the following year in their home city.
